Most importantly, the focus upon diversity ought to be on individual working style, output, communication techniques, role level, level of performance and economic significance. This paper addresses the importance of cultural diversity, intercultural relationships and communication in the work setting. Reasons for Encouragin g Diversity in the Workforce The main aim of encouraging diversity in the work place is to tap talent and unique qualities along these dimensions. Both the employer and employees must focus on the differences and similarities presented to the workplace. Cultural diversity is an influence over individual identity and perspective to promote performance. Diversity goes beyond legally specified dimensions to offer non-discriminatory opportunities and affirmative statutes within the work setting. When there are intercultural relationships, the workplace is free of non-discriminatory instances and the management are able to support the association through the organization culture. Cultural diversity within the firm is therefore an element that represents dignity and respect for all, in the aim of encouraging knowledge or experience gain and team strength. Advantages and Disadvantages of Cultural Diversity in the Workplace To begin with, cultural diversity boosts the company’s compe titive situation in the market. Unlike the early days when marketers thought that a good or service was universally acceptable, cultural diversification enables people to understand that different cultures demand for different taste of the same product or service. Large chain stores like Wal-Mart or Woolworths are in a position to establish the best way of presenting their products, depending on location due to their involvement of intercultural relationship especially in their marketing departments (Booyens, 2008). Today we see a business scenario where small and medium sized companies are able to give big company a run for their money because they understand the concept of trading in a multi-cultural setting. The technological advancement of the twenty first century creates openings for engaging in technological aspects and resources such as the internet trading, which assists to overcome the physical boundaries.Advertising Looking for research paper on communication strategi es? Having people from different countries (cultural backgrounds) enhances knowledge and thus promoting trade (Martin and Nakayama, 2009). A business with ethnic diversity can easily serve a wide base of clients without much effort, considering the ease for workers to relate with different clients. The different cultures therefore have diverse representation in the firm, to enhance sharing of common aspects and promote business functions. There is a wide and equally diverse and well-balanced pool of knowledge created by diverse cultures in the workplace. Knowledge is power to gain experience, creativity, customer support or participation, lasting results and eventually long-term high profit margins (Booyens, 2008). Contrary, different cultural background also hinders acceptance and non- discrimina tion in the work setting and this are the barriers to enhancing diversity in the workplace. In some cases, the differences are a source of conflicts, group-work failures and thus fall of business operations. This eventually leads to poor economical growth. As much as it supports growth, diversity issues can also be negative and a hindrance to development if they lack proper implementation procedures. Importance of Understanding Cultural Diversification at the Workplace Implementation of cultural diversity at the workplace should be subsequent to strategically planning. If one is able to understand the difference between his/her culture and that of the co-workers, then it is possible to enhance inspiration. This is achievable through infusion or integration of the cultural differences such as analysing and deciding on the right understanding within the group differences and thus led to implementation of business procedures. Cultural diversification ought to apply from the top executi ves, who should show commitment and emphasize on importance of diversity. When the top executives understand the importance of diversity, it is easy for them to foster the same to employees, thus reduce diversity-related conflicts. Execution or change management must involve the top administrators who provide an upbeat measure of solving diversity related conflicts by regularly emphasising on its benefits to the firm.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Culture,Communication and Intercultural Relationships specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The business cultural commitment to diversity requires legal gazetting with the external regulatory bodies, in the aim of emphasizing on the consequences regarding intercultural conflicts. In relation to Booyens writing (2008), a company need to have programs for performing prior training on employees to show whom to deal with counterparts from different cultural setting. Arguably, it is impossible for employees to have an immediate understanding of the complexity involving different cultural groups. However, the employees must understand the importance of being careful on issues regarding stereotyping, language differences, time differences and individual versus collective mindset, as a measure of avoiding or resolving diversity related conflicts. Fostering cultural diversity/unique communications at the workplace Promotion of cultural diversity in the workplace ought to take place before commencement of hiring. This means that one should include diversity in the business plan. In line with Pride et al (2009), discovery of strengths or benefits of an action occur well prior to proper planning. â€Å"These calls for the management to be responsive over recognizing†¦, respecting and capitalizing on various aspects of the society mainly regarding ethnicity, race and gender† (Pride et al, 2009). A good manager should note that even outside t he work setting; one finds exposure to various cultural practices. Importance of intercultural communication The main and frequently utilized measure of encouraging work performance culture in a firm entails methodologies of enhancing communication. A good communication system encourages employees’ procedure of questioning and seeking guidance through departmental groups. A company ought to encourage human resource representatives or management to take into consideration all the employees’ point of view as a management strategy. They should participate in decision-making and policy implementation procedures especially on matters concerning their performance requirements. This helps in avoiding conflicts during performance. It is important to communicate a leadership vision. The written code of ethics requires enhancement of principles of reporting the wrong acts. There ought to be an easy and safe way of reporting violations and questionable proceedings. â€Å"The emp loyees should be in a position to deliver bad news to the management without the fear of negative career repercussions† (Booyens, 2008). They also need to be reassured of immediate actions or investigations. Performance Expectations Leadership styles and discipline are the key defining elements for creation and management of a good communication relationship. Organizational culture is the systematic procedures regarding performance of duties. It is the guide of the employees’ thoughts, actions and feelings. Lack of proper management on this aspects or performance culture among employees’ causes perplexity or stymie by some bureaucratic processes and eventually leads to conflict.Advertising Looking for research paper on communication strategies? With such discipline, there are clear expectations and commitments. There has to be management proactive measures to block abstractions of performance. Performance requirements present the ample need for the existing ethnical groups to develop a way of learning, understanding, appreciation and accepting each other’s ethnic group. This would involve the understanding of differences involving culture, history and economic backgrounds. Conclusion According to Martin and Nakayama (2009), a good system capitalizes on the employees strengths while minimizing on the weaknesses. The differences between employees’ culture should entail proper usage, to strengthen understanding and enhance stronger bonds through team works as a measure to capture global clientele. An entrepreneur should know that diversity is something more than mare moral obligati on or a necessity for a business, but it is also a business opportunity. Cultural diversification in the work place promotes trustworthiness, acceptance, honesty, free interaction, group work, sharing of ideas and comments. This means that the organization is able to derive talents that are more valuable and promote peace and success. A good multicultural environment addresses conflicts and exposes the unfulfilled commitments. It provides alternatives and encourages sharing of real opinions. Understanding the importance of intercultural relationship assists in provision of good policies and procedures in the workforce. Cultural diversity therefore defines the employees’ requirements, expectations, mutual understanding, interdependence and positive results. The management must understand and depend on the effectiveness and multi-talents of the staff and implement methods of peacefully eliciting them. This means that the employees focus more on learning and building on their st rengths through interactions, agility, confidence, simplicity and need to blend well with others, to enforce the vision and mission of an organization. Discuss, with relevant examples, the different levels of income and Essay

Discuss, with relevant examples, the different levels of income and expenditure that a typical UK individual is likely to ex - Essay Example Its quality of education is high and the literacy levels are among the highest in the world. Its learning institutions, especially the universities, rank highly in global ratings. The income levels in the United Kingdom are above the global average (Cordner, Das, and Cordner, 2010, p. 76). A typical UK citizen is thus destined to experience many levels of income and expenditures due to the nation’s diverse nature. Income The average household net-adjusted disposable income on the global scale is $22,387 per year. United Kingdom’s average citizen outdoes this and has an average annual income of $26,552. This is according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and development (OECD) survey carried out in 2010. The UK also has an average household wealth of $59,923 according to the OECD survey. This also is above the average household wealth of $36,238 for OECD members. The debt level though was $73,039 in 2010 according to a national financial education charity cal led Credit Action. This includes all debts mortgage and credit card debt. Also, the OECD estimates that the income for the top 20 per cent of earners is $55,138 per year. This greatly contrasts with the bottom 20 per percent of earners who earn $9,556 annually. The income bracket age with the highest earnings is from thirty five to forty nine years. The lowest earning age bracket is from fifteen to nineteen years (Clark, 2007, p. 88). The professional and managerial jobs earn the highest incomes. In contrast, elementary jobs earn the least incomes across the board. Of the total working population, 7 per cent have contracts lasting six months or less. 75 per cent of the men and 65 per cent of the women have jobs in this diverse economy. With more than 70 per cent of the working age bracket employed, this is a fairly good condition compared to other nations. It means that few people are below the poverty line and the living conditions are quite luxurious. Although there exists a big g ap between the high and low income earners, access to basic needs is almost assured for all levels of income. This has ensured a relatively stable economy. Expenditure Taxation Since all governments the world over depend on taxation in funding public projects to avail social amenities to their citizens, great interest is generated by this subject (Black, 2010, p. 89). The United Kingdom, being no exception, has an elaborate taxation scheme to see to the availability of public goods among them roads, hospitals and educational facilities. The typical UK citizen has a number of taxes they pay during their lifetime. A few of the taxes are personal taxes, business taxes and sales taxes. All these taxes serve the sole purpose of contributing to the national basket. Personal taxes, among them income tax, council and inheritance taxes, are directly levied to each citizen. Income taxes to a typical United Kingdom citizen include taxes levied on salaries, bonuses, commissions and overseas all owances. The basic income rate, covering incomes from 0.00 British pounds to 35,000 British pounds, charged 20 per cent income tax (Becker, 2009, p. 45). The next higher tax bracket, covering incomes from 35,001 British pounds to 150,000 British pound

Project Management Summary Essay Example for Free

Project Management Summary Essay Strategic portfolio management plays an intricate part in project management. Through this paper, the reader will gain a stronger understanding of the relationship that strategic portfolio management plays in project management. Strategic Management Relation to Project Management Project management involves several parts, but the meaning must be understood first. â€Å"Project management is the planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of company resources for a relatively short-term objective that has been established to complete specific goals and objectives† (Kezner, 2013, p4). Knowing this allows the project manager to implement steps toward achievement of the defined goals and objectives. Part of these steps has to do with strategic management. Project management is strategically managed to advance the corporations organizational goals. Strategic management insures the right initiatives are pursued and supported with resources. Strategy today needs to align to a more fluid nature of business environments. It has to be flexible enough to adapt constantly to changing external and internal conditions. The relationship between strategic portfolio management and project management is a very important relationship. Strategic management compliments project management in that it attempts to ensure success by way of doing things at the most opportune time. If a company attempts something too early or too late then possible negative consequences may occur. Projects, within programs or portfolios, are a means of achieving organizational goals and objectives, often in the context of a strategic plan. Although a group of projects within a program can have discrete benefits, they can also contribute to the benefits of the program, to the objectives of the portfolio, and to the strategic plan of the organization. Conclusion As stated at the beginning of this paper â€Å"strategic portfolio management  plays an intricate part in project management†. The reader should now have a stronger understanding of the relationship that strategic portfolio management plays in project management. References Kerzner, Ph.D., H. (2013). Semantics Essay -- Communication, Language

Language is the primary source of communication for humans and is used to convey thoughts, feelings, intentions, and desires to others (Bonvillain 2008:1). Many rules are taken into account when forming a language. According to Bolton, language is arbitrary and is unrepresentative of the objects they represent (Bolton 1996: 63). The study of Semantics allows us to identify the meaning of words and phrases in their literal sense, and helps us to make meaning out of arbitrary sounds and phrases. It has been contributed to by both linguists and philosophers. Linguists used lexical decomposition to understand the features that comprise words and the categories in which the words fit. Philosophers dealt more with the meanings of sentences and truth condition and reference (Parker and Riley 2010: 28).Semantics is still not a completely understood field, and as a result it is not easy to study (Parker and Riley 2010:26-27).Semantics is split into three different sections: sense, reference, and truth conditions. Thanks to semantics, we gain an understanding of what words mean when they are said to us. Without semantics, we would not be able to understand each other. Semantics take into account cultural, situational and environmental constructs to develop meaning in different areas of the United States and throughout the world (Bonvillain 2008: 27). With that being said, there are several things that semantics brings to the English language that allows us to communicate on a deeper level and makes our language more complex. Sense is the study of the literal and intentional meaning of words and phrases. Part of this section is lexical ambiguity. This occurs when one word has more than one meaning. Parker and Riley use the example of the wo... ...nd not in the other (Parker and Riley 2010: 40). Presuppositions are phrases that have to be considered true in order to evaluate the validity of another phrase. For example if I said â€Å"Judy Genshaft is the president of USF† and â€Å"Judy Genshaft is a good president,† you would have to accept the idea that she is the president in order to understand whether she was a good or bad president. In conclusion, semantics is what we use to make sense of our language. It takes into account the cultural references, environmental sayings, and situation events. Maybe the reason that semantics is so hard to understand is because it tries to make sense of something that has no meaning and things that change from place to place. Without it, our language would be much more primitive than it is now, but because of it we can make sense of things, make references, and understand truth.

Nothing Gold Can Stay Interpretation

Taylor Sims Interpretation of Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost is a poem that means as wonderful as any life is, it cannot continue forever. That no matter what is gold in one’s eyes, such as loved ones, young stages, innocence, or one’s treasures, it can only carry on for so long. That perfect cannot remain perfect. No golden times or moments can stay. Once a flower blooms, it must die and that bloom will never be seen by eyes again. The same goes for life, once a person reaches the final stages of living, they will become only a memory. Nature’s first sprout of life is pure as gold. â€Å"Nature’s first green is gold†. Nature may attempt all she may, but it would still be fated to leave. â€Å"Her hardest hue to hold†. A flower then sprouts from the Earth. The fragile and soft petals grow and grow thus completing the blossom. â€Å"Her early leaf’s a flower†. Then, Frost tells us that the beautiful flower is not to last for long. If one had a choice, the flower would last forever.Yet, it would have to go away. â€Å"But only so an hour. † Sadly, as marvelous as the green might seem, it slowly droops and departs its’ life. â€Å"Then leaf subsides to leaf†. Because of this, Eden mourns over the death of the pure. Eden, something that people thought was going to stay perfect and holy still went down. â€Å"So Eden sank to grief†. The day goes on, and with it goes the life and beauty of the flower. â€Å"So dawn goes down to day†. Hopefully one savors the beauty of it because â€Å"nothing gold can stay†.On the whole, something or someone that is great or pure as gold cannot stay for a long time. One must treasure the golden times and moments because of just that. They are moments, and are not meant to last. However, memories can last a lifetime. The golden memories can continue to live in one’s heart. Life is a cycle , and like in any cycle there is a beginning and an end. Nature is ephemeral, and fleetingness enhances human nature. As Frost wrote, nothing gold can stay. Words: 375
